Peri-menopause as a green light
Life stage transitions do not actually mean decline.
Yes, it’s easy to see it as a red flag when you’re juggling 48+ symptoms, an overloaded schedule and a culture that’s deeply anti-ageing.
But after 14 years of working with women navigating this transition, I’ve learned something different.
Menopause is actually a green light when handled with love, care and honour.
Time to shift
I can’t help but wonder how we arrived here. How menopause became a story of decline instead of a source of power.
Menopause arrives in a culture that has already taught us to fear ageing. We’re told our value lives in our appearance, productivity, fertility and ability to stay unchanged.
So we push through, ignore the signs of time and treat transition as something to survive. Read more.
Time to rant
We’ve been talking a lot about empowerment and how it can feel disempowering when it’s used out of context for women.
Let me elaborate. Women are naturally powerful. They don’t need anyone to put the power inside them. They don’t need permission to be who they are. They give themselves permission to feel and show their power.
True empowerment is like the hummingbird’s wings that can be felt in the chest when a woman remembers who she is.
The work I needed to do
I’m not quite sure where to start with this story - perhaps because I have so many personal experiences of perimenopause. And also because, since I began coaching in 2012, I’ve witnessed the journeys of countless women navigating the same confusing, life-changing territory.
This is the story behind The Menopause Advantage™, my menopause coaching programme for women leaders and the organisations that want them to thrive.
This is also the work that I needed to do when I was at my lowest perimenopausal, postpartum edge.
