Don’t forget who you are.

To the left, 13 year old me at Granada Studios and me today!

Often, when we’re faced with challenges, a nervous voice from our past can surface.

Through my own journey, I’ve learned how to soothe those smaller parts of me and remind them: the woman I am now is in control of herself. She is a leader. She is wise. She can be trusted to navigate life.

But recently, as I stepped into a period of change, a different voice emerged.

She whispered: “Do you remember that time when I asked every business in town for a job? I was thirteen, had never worked before, and Mum and Dad laughed when I told them my plan. And do you remember that feeling when someone actually said yes? Don’t forget who you are. Don’t forget your bulldog determination. Don’t forget what you bring to the table. You worked in a small shop at thirteen, sold items, and even manned the cash desk when the boss stepped out. Remember just how capable we are.”

And that’s when I realised: the younger me was reminding me of a truth I sometimes forget. That no matter the challenge, I’ve always been capable, resourceful, and ready to take ownership.

This feels especially important for women in business. Too often, we’re taught to downplay our capability, to be agreeable rather than bold. We hesitate to ask for what we want, even when we know we deserve it. But our younger selves often held a different kind of bravery—the kind that walked into rooms without overthinking, the kind that believed anything was possible, the kind that asked without apology.

I’m a big believer that if you want something, reach for it. If you have a dream, bring it off the shelf. If you feel you’re worth it, you ask for what you want.

Because growth requires courage, resilience, and the willingness to use your voice. And every time a woman asks for what she truly wants, she rewrites the narrative: not just for herself, but for the women who come after her.

Don’t let fear steal your journey or your voice.

For me, that younger voice reminds me just how capable we are. It’s why I keep stepping forward, even when it feels scary.

Over to you… what do you need to remember today?
